Gifting your gut a Holi experience could make your body healthier and ever!

All these years, we have celebrated Holi with colours that only decorate the surface of our bodies. But at &Me we have always believed in rectifying our body right from within.

How about you let your gut experience a blast of colours this Holi?

How would your gut respond to colourful food?

Fruits and vegetables owe their characteristic colours to phytonutrients which help protect the plant from germs, bugs and harmful rays of the sun. In certain cases, the colourful-ness also helps with attracting bees and flies which will then help the plant to grow further and bear fruits.

If these phytonutrients can be of so much importance to the plants, imagine the abundance of nutrition that it could pack for a human body?

Red fruits and vegetables for example have phytochemicals like lycopene and ellagic acid that have been proven to reduce and reverse the complications of prostate and esophageal cancers. The best way to get these pigments into your bodies would be through whole foods like: cranberries, strawberries, watermelons, red peppers, pomegranates, grapes, cherries.

      Red fruits and vegetables

Orange and Yellow fruits and vegetables are packed with carotenoids and Vitamin C. The most prominent carotenoid is the beta carotene which converts into Vitamin A in the body to improve eye sight.

Oranges and other citrus fruits contain other orange pigments that improve blood circulation and reduce stress.

Fruits rich with these pigments: Oranges, Lemon, Mango, Papaya, Corn etc

                                    yellow fruits

Green fruits and vegetables are quite literally the best things for every human. From having phytonutrients like isothiocyanates, isoflavones and Vitamin K that help with bone health, there are cruciferous vegetables like broccoli that improve immune function while darker green vegetables like Kale improve mood. Lighter shades of green, like in Kiwi helps cure insomnia and help repair any sort of DNA damage.

Fruits and mainly vegetables rich with these pigments: Asparagus, Broccoli, Spinach, Peas, Green Grapes, Brussel Sprouts.

     Green fruits and vegetables

Purple fruits and vegetables are loaded with anthocyanins and antioxidants. Foods with these pigments fight the signs of ageing and are also anti-cancerous. They also help improve memory and reduces risk of Alzheimer’s

Food rich in anthocyanins are mainly- purple cabbage, blackberries, prunes, plums, figs etc

                         Blackberries

White and Brown foods, though looking dull on the outset, pack a punch of nutrients too!

They have compounds that help lower cholesterol, make bones strong and also fight cancer.

Example of food rich in these pigments and colors: Mushrooms, Potatoes, Garlic. So this holi, liven up your plates with colorful food for your gut and tag us with #Colouryourplate. Talk to us about the colors of &Me drinks that are your favourites!

What is Lorem Ipsum? Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. Why do we use it? It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
