4 HABITS EVERYONE NEEDS FOR BETTER MENTAL HEALTH
[article]
When was the last time you thought about your mental health? It must have been a while for sure. It is crucial to take care of your mental health, especially in times like now, when there are mental health problems arising by the day. The easiest and most basic way of taking care of mental health is to build some habits.
Mental health issues don’t arise out of anywhere. They start with things as small as feeling upset over petty things or blacking out too often. This does not mean one has to be happy and stress-free all the time, healthy individuals also experience stress, sadness, and anger but in a healthy way. If you start experiencing these emotions frequently and it starts stressing you way more than it should, it can lead to issues such as anxiety and depression. Diet and workout are essential for good physical health, similarly, there are some habits that help you achieve better mental health. Mental health issues mostly have their roots in our lifestyle. Lack of sleep, no free time, constant work pressure can lead to these issues.
1. Get good sleep
If you have ever heard, it is a fact that one cannot compensate for a night’s sleep. If you lose sleep at night, sleeping during the day won’t make up for it. These days, most of us work round the clock, letting the biological clock take a backseat. Once sleep goes for a toss, you are less productive, you are less happy, you are even deprived of energy, which ultimately leads to a bad day and anxiety. Remember, nothing matters more than your sleep. Work is important no doubt, but is it more important than your health? So focus on your health, get a good night’s sleep to avoid any further problems.
2. Burn some calories
Practicing regular physical activities does not just help you with weight or fitness, it helps in releasing happy hormones – the endorphins. Have you noticed the freshness you feel even after burning calories? It is the hormones! Make sure you engage yourself in intense physical activity for a minimum of 30 minutes each day. Yoga is also a good way to burn calories and moreover to make your mind calm and happy. Burning calories is also important because it ultimately helps you get better sleep too. Practice it every day and see the difference!
3. Spare some time for yourself
It is as important as making time for your loved ones is. Make sure that you take some time for yourself each day and do things that make you happy. Make some time for your hobbies, for self-care and to pamper yourself, take some time for things you love doing. This gives you a sense of calmness, the fact that you are taking care of your mind makes you feel good and happy. Sometimes, in the midst of a busy lifestyle, taking a break, breathing in, and focussing on yourself are all you need.
4. Count your blessings
When was the last time you felt grateful about the trees around you? It must have been a while. We are so busy and caught up in a stressful life, that we forget to pay attention to things that actually are important to living. Gratitude journaling is a proven way to take care of your mental health. It gives you a positive perspective on life and helps you see the good things around you, that many of us don’t see anymore. Practice gratitude journaling each day and experience the magic!
