It takes time to heal
I remember my childhood filled with a lot of moral storybooks, Jataka tales, Aesops fables. The Peppa
Pig book series, the Peter and Jane, Julia Donaldson books that my little one reads today are equally
good, maybe better, but childhood memories differ! And the 1990's was one of the former.
There was this one about the “Hare and the Tortoise” with the moral ‘Slow and steady wins the race’.
When I was young, I believed in the moral without questioning it, but as I grew I denied it as to win
something, you obviously need to speed-up and I guess the entire generation was in the race. Everyone started looking for quick solutions,
from work to health. But is a quick solution always the best? Sometimes yes. But not always.
Sometimes, for something to attain the best of its state, the ‘slow and steady’ principle works best. Take
diamonds - it takes 1 to 3.3 billion years for them to form.
Similarly, let us give our body the time it needs to heal itself or to attain the condition we want
to. An instant solution may be good for temporary relief, but if you are looking out for a permanent
solution with little or no side-effects, that takes time in a steady way.
That is what India’s age-old medical system, Ayurveda, is about.
Ayurvedic healing is based on the belief of a balance between the mind, body and spirit for health and
wellness. To heal any of the ailments, one needs to follow the principles on a constant basis, the results
may feel delayed, but will surely be rewarding for a long, long time.
