We all dream of having flawless skin! But unfortunately, all of us have dealt with or are even dealing with acne, pimples and breakouts. It can happen at any age and can happen due to any reason, be it hormonal or genetic. And how irritating it gets!

That’s why the market is already flooded with anti acne face masks, acne control serums and whatnot. But no matter how many times you wash your face or how many expensive products you try, the acne will return.

But believe it or not, the key to getting perfect acne-free skin lies in the water!

Yes, you read that right!

You might have already heard of drinking water as a wellness tip! The human body is even made up of 60% of water. It is needed for the proper functioning of all body organs. And your skin is the largest organ, hence it makes sense that it needs as much as water your kidneys or heart does!

Undoubtedly, Water, nature’s best gift acts as an elixir for your skin too. Like the rest of your body, the skin also contains a significant amount of water. Experts say that skin is 30% water. It contributes to the thickness and strength of the skin. Skin also prevents your body from losing water to evaporation and locks the moisture into the body.

While it is important to drink water for your skin, you need to understand that drinking a glass of water will not immediately give your skin a plump and clear look! That’s not how it functions! Instead, your skin derives multiple benefits from water indirectly. Some of the miraculous benefits of water for the skin include the following:

1. Prevents dehydration

Pimples, acne and blisters are often caused to excessive heat and oil production on the body. And water helps in dealing with both the issues. Drinking adequate amounts of water keeps your body hydrated with fluids and cools down the body’s temperature, which helps in reducing the body heat. Additionally, water also helps in hydrating the skin. Lack of water can lead to the excessive production of oil (called sebum) which clogs the skin pores and results in acne.

2. Boosting the Immune system

As you must be aware of the fact that acne is caused in part by bacteria that are trapped in clogged follicles. This bacteria triggers an immune response that causes inflammation and redness that you think of as pimples. In order to heal, your body needs to deploy the immune cells to your skin that can fight the bacteria and end the breakout.

3. Regularizing Blood Sugar levels

High insulin levels in blood aggravate pimples and acne by increasing oil production. Drinking water helps in managing the sugar level by diluting the glucose present in the bloodstream. Pairing it with a diet that has a low glycemic index will help in regulating blood sugar levels and hence help in controlling acne.

4. Flush out toxins

Detox diets are a fad! Your body already has a built-in detox system in place and you can smoothen it out further by keeping your body hydrated.

Drinking lukewarm water in the morning helps in flushing out the toxins from the body. This natural detoxification helios in improving metabolism and immunity. This in return helps in getting clear and flawless skin!

5. Maintaining pH balance of the skin

Maintaining a good pH balance is important for skin health. The pH value of any substance ranges from 0-14 with 0 being highly acidic and 14 being most alkaline. pH value 7 is neutral and is perfect for your skin. This is the exact pH value of pure water. Drinking more water helps in maintaining a pH balance in your body and hence gives you healthy skin!

In addition to the above-mentioned benefits, drinking water also helps in reducing wrinkles and prevents skin sagging. People who drink large amounts of water are less likely to suffer from scars, wrinkles or soft lines. Well-hydrated skin is also capable of maintaining its elasticity.

How much water should you be drinking in a day?

This actually depends on your metabolism, weight, height and your daily routine. Generally, adults should drink at least 5 to 8 glasses of water every day and even more if needed.

Additional tips to get hydrated skin

Water is not only good for your skin when consumed but it applying water on the surface of your skin has benefits as well. You can use lukewarm water to clean your skin as it will gently clean your skin without stripping the essential oils. It is advisable to not use too hot water as it can lead to skin dryness.

Then you can use a rich moisturizer or serum to lock in the moisture into the surface of the skin. This helps you retain water over the course of your day. You can increase the amount of moisture in your skin by using products that have humectants like glycerine or hyaluronic acid. Actually, salicylic serum for the face and water is a great combination for treating acne.

What is Lorem Ipsum? Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. Why do we use it? It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
